Everyone wants to make sure they avoid any problems with their hot tubs and one of the ways they can do this is through hot tub maintenance.
An important part of maintaining your hot tub is doing something called shocking your hot tub.
To many people, the term hot tub shocking is alien to them and initially, it doesn’t make much sense to them.
Of course, there are some exceptions when people have heard of hot tub shocking but they aren’t quite sure what it means.
So to learn what hot tub shocking is and how you can do it to your hot tub, continue reading.
What does shocking your hot tub mean?
A lot of new hot tub owners get a little unsure when it comes to shocking their hot tubs, at first it can seem like it’s a difficult thing to do.
However, one thing we want to stress is that shocking your hot tub isn’t as complicated as you might think.
Shocking your hot tub is simply the process of chlorine or non-chlorine substances to help make your water cleaner.
Once you add the substance that is used to shock your water it then begins to dissipate and spread throughout your hot tub water.
It then starts to break down any harmful chemicals or any odours that may arise in your hot tub and remove unwanted water contaminants.
Due to the nature of getting in and out of your hot tub water, it will begin to collect some residue and other elements may begin to pool in the water.
This can include things like hair, oily moisturisers, makeup, drinks and more.
If these elements are left for too long then unfortunately it can make your hot tub water dirty and unsafe to use, which is why it is treated with a shock solution.
What are the benefits of shocking your hot tub?
As we’ve mentioned before, getting rid of any excess residue is important, and this would definitely be one of the biggest benefits to shocking your hot tub.
The reality is that nobody wants to get into their hot tub for a relaxing and enjoyable experience only to find that it is filled with residue.
So having a shocking solution which can make the water clean and fresh to relax in makes your hot tub experience much more pleasurable.
Another benefit to shocking your hot tub is the fact that it can stop your hot tub from getting clogged up.
While the shocking solution can’t necessarily dissolve big items that are in the hot tub it can get rid of smaller bacteria and residue.
This smaller bacteria can pool especially around the draining pipes that are in the hot tub.
Fortunately, shocking your hot tub can help to prevent this from happening which can be a big benefit for you.
How to shock your hot tub
If you are worried about the idea of shocking your hot tub, don’t be. The process of shocking your hot tub is fairly simple and it can be done easily.
The first stage to shocking your hot tub is knowing how often it needs to be done.
Now depending on your hot tub and how often you use it you may need to shock your hot tub more or less frequently.
Typically, if you are using your hot tub once or even a couple of times a week then we would recommend that you shock your hot tub once weekly.
If you use your hot tub less frequently then you may not need to shock your hot tub as much.
To shock your hot tub simply get a good hot tub shocking treatment, the better the treatment the more effective it will be.
You should look at the reviews for the shocking treatment you choose and this can be either chlorine or non-chlorine solution.
Next, you need to look at the dosage of shocking solution that you need for your hot tub and it should say what dosage you should use on the instructions.
After this you simply add the recommended dosage and allow the treatment to do its job.
If you have a chlorine shock then you shouldn’t go in the water for roughly 24 hours however if it is non-chlorine then you can use your hot tub as soon as 15 minutes after.
However, we would recommend that you follow the instructions that are provided with your solution.
